The Danish Law now requires every person older than 18 years old to have a NemKonto. This is a normal bank account that you assign as a NemKonto. Via this system, you will receive state benefits (such as pensions, student loans, social welfare payments etc.), tax returns and your salary if you are paid by a public institution.
How to get a NemKonto
There are several ways you can assign a bank account as a NemKonto . If you have an existing bank account in Denmark, or you are in process of opening one, just let your bank know that you would like to assign it as a NemKonto.
An alternative option is to do it online , but for this, you need to have a NemID or electronic signature.
If you don’t have a Danish bank account, you can name a foreign bank account as your NemKonto. To do this, you need to fill out a registration form with your CPR number and send it to the address mentioned in the form.
Activation
After you have successfully registered one of your accounts as a NemKonto, you will receive an activation letter to activate your account. This letter will be in Danish but you can see an English translation here .
