Opening a bank account in Germany
-
A friend of mine is coming to Germany over the summer for two months and is thinking about opening a bank account so she can have money transfered to her if needed.
I understand that opening a bank account in Germany requires proof of residency. Thus the question is: Do you think it is worth it to open the account for that period or time or not. Is opening an account easy enough that it is worth it or not?
Let me know. Thanks,

Opening a bank account
I don't think it is worth it if she stays only for 2 month. She would need (as far as I know) a german address.
Most banks these days are working somehow together. Or they have branches in foreign countries. She should find out (through her home bank) with which bank they have some kind of agreement. That way she could leave her money into her own bank account and use an ATM from that particular bank branch to withdrawl money. Shouldn't cost much.Anonymous 09 jun 2005, 03:06 - Rapporteer misbruik -
bank account
Hi
i am presuming you live in Spain, but i might be wrong. You could open a Citibank account in Spain and withdraw from the Citibank branches in Germany, which there are many. there would be some cost but not as much as using ATMs. i am not sure how much you have to deposit to open an account in Spain but it might be high to be not worth it unless it is a regular thing, but i would suggest worth checking out. I have a deposit Citibank account in the UK earning interest and can draw from it through TheCitibank ATM's whilst in germanyAnonymous 15 jun 2005, 06:36 - Rapporteer misbruik
