NHS and trips abroad

• Hiya,
  
  I am moving to England in September, but will go to Germany over Christmas, easter and half-term. What happens if I need medical treatment whilste I am in Germany? Will the NHS cover the costs? And do I have to fill in any forms beforehand?
  
  Is it maybe wise to join a private health insurance in Germany that'll cover costs in England and Germany?
